While the authors of iPASS offer many useful suggestions and ideas for using technology for advising, there are also serious differences in their understanding of what constitutes academic advising compared to the opinions of many within the advising field. All in the field of academic advising should be aware of the iPASS model because it may influence how stakeholders at institutions consider the ways that technology should be adopted and deployed for academic advising. The critical idea missing with iPASS though is the consideration of advising as a teaching and learning activity.
